The gluteal tuberosity is a lateral ridge of the linea aspera running toward the base of the greater trochanter. The proximal aspect of the gluteal tuberosity sometimes forms a prominent third trochanter. The gluteal tuberosity is an attachment of the gluteus maximus muscle.
