The carpus is a group of 8 carpal bones and all soft structures located between the forearm and the metacarpus. The proximal row of carpal bones consists of 4 bones: the scaphoid, lunate and triquetrum in a lateral to medial orientation, respectively, and a mediopalmar pisiform bone. The distal row of carpal bone consists of 4 bones: the trapezium, trapezoid, capitate and hamate in a lateral to medial orientation, respectively.
