There are normally 5 fingers in the hand, found distal to the metacarpal bones. The fingers are referred to, in lateral to medial order, as the thumb, index finger, middle finger, ring finger, and little finger. The fingers are made up of individual bones called phalanges. A phalanx refers to one of the bones that make up the digits and is the singular form of phalanges.
The thumb contains a proximal and distal phalanx, while the other 4 fingers contain a proximal, middle and distal phalanx. Tap the distal phalanx of the RING FINGER and the proximal, middle and distal phalanges will appear labeled.
